How amazing was General Conference?! There is no greater feeling than knowing I am getting to listen to men who are so in tune with what Heavenly Father wants not just everyone to know, but especially me. And I am so excited whenever I get to see that cute little President Monson up there on the podium. I just love this cute little guy.
I was so proud of the church and all the effort there was to get the word out, including this video.
I had to work on Saturday so I didn't get to see those sessions (so of course I had to watch my dear Elder Holland's talk online - right here if you want to see it!) and actually...most of the other ones. Haha But still, the Sunday sessions were just amazing. I always walk away (or turn off the tv) just feeling inspired and motivated to just do and try my absolute best. I feel so blessed to have the gospel. It's true that everything else just melts away in my life. I've actually seen the difference it has made and I can't help but feel a little selfish that I haven't done more to bring that same thing to other people. I'm hoping I can be better at that from now on.
I've also really been working on my relationship with Heavenly Father lately and doing something completely scary...leaving every single thing in His hands. I mean, obviously I make decisions, but I make sure everything I do is a-okay with my Father first. So it was so great to get reassurance that that's okay. And the communication has become so much more clear and more meaningful to me. I know I can always rely on Him no matter what scary, big decisions I am trying to make. Or even the little ones! I mean, hello people! Do you hear what I'm saying!? How awesome is that?!
Anyway, I saw this picture today and it made me laugh. Someday I will get to go there again and then I'm going to take a fun picture like this. I love conference. Love it way too much.
Conference weekend is always so great. How can I not be excited to hear what the prophet and all of his counselors have to say for me, right now at this time?! And usually it's a lot of fun to watch it with my family in April, but I won't lie... I really love being here and watching it with my friends while I'm here in October.
This year, we got together with our awesome FHE brothers and had breakfast and all watched it together. It was SO much fun! Aaron made us (literally...I'm not joking here) THE BEST cinnamon rolls I have ever had in my life. From scratch. And then we had hash brown and egg and cheesy egg roll things that I made. Yes, my husband and I are quite talented. Haha
Once our little children were all stuffed, we all just sat and enjoyed conference together...and just enjoyed each other's company! We played a game called What If or something, where you write a phrase starting with "What If" and then pass it to the next person who writes a conclusion. Then when you go around, person a reads their what if and person b answers with what is on the back of their's. Then person b reads their "what if" question and person c reads their statement. You get the point. Anyway, it got pretty...dang...hilarious. We're a pretty fun bunch. And we played a couple other games, including the Ha game. But pretty much, us girls stayed over there foreeeeeeeveeeeer just to hang out with our awesome brothers. We just hung out and talked (and cleaned up) and ate. That's right. I think we had almost every meal at their house today. It was just such a fun time! I don't know how the next round is gonna go tomorrow (since we have a relief society one planned) but I had so much fun today. It all had to end when the upstanding young gentlemen went to Priesthood session. And Alex and I went and sold ice cream at the Teriyaki Express all night. But they came to say hi to us, so really, it was an all day event. If you weren't there, you missed out my friend. Really missed out.
Anyway, I'm so so glad we did that. I just love my extra family to PIECES. Actually, to smidgens. Yeah that's right.
Thank you so much boys for letting us come over and invade your apartment for hours. WE sure love you. :)
Ps. So funny because I'm 99% sure at one point or another, we were all asleep. Tanner and John the most, those little precious snugglebugs. Not with each other! Oh man, that could get me in trouble. But. Snugglebugs none the less.
Guys. This is bad. I take pictures of every living thing and now, it's GONE!!! Siiiiiiiiigh. Well. Alas. There will be hardly ANY pictures on this post. My sincerest apologies since I know that's the only way I can get someone to last a whole post.
So who else LOVES Conference?! *raises hand* Oh man. It's the most wonderful time of the year!! (Oh.....that's Christmas?....Whoops) I love it. Yes, of course it is AWESOME to stay in my pj's and get to still "go to church" but that's not the reason I adore it so much. It's because there's ALWAYS (yes, this is a tried and true fact) a talk that is tailored to me. One talk that is written with my name blurred in the author's mind. In fact, sometimes I get a little embarrassed. It's like I'm being publicly called out by Heavenly Father...but in secret. You can spot them-just watch for when I'm taking notes like a freakinstenographer*. You can't miss it.
*(By the way, Alex, the beginning of this this totally reminds me of that time in Cult Anthro when that girl was SUPER annoyed by your typing. Hahaha)
Anyway, the whole day was really great. Rachel and I woke up and smelled breakfast being started and were asked to help finish it up-my job was the cinnamon (YES, we had not only normal warm, perfectly NOT burned cinnamon rolls, BUT also orange rolls. Yeah. That's right) rolls and then we had the partial Welchs come over (3/6) and we all sat and watched conference together.
It was so cute. We all sat and watched, Rachel and I took notes, and the kids colored (Carter showed me his masterpiece-a book they got in primary and he'd drew a picture of every single speaker on a page. It was SO cute) and then Paul & Makayla went home. So we all did separate things until the next session came along. Then we all sat down together once again. I could not take notes fast enough this conference. I love it. There is no better feeling than knowing that the men who are on the watchtower for us are giving me advice that they came up with, on their own, after talking to our Father in Heaven. I am so blessed to have the gospel not just as a part of my life, but as my lifestyle. "It's not easy to be a Latter-Day Saint. But in the long run, it is the only course." I can't imagine how people get through their tough times while questioning if there is a God. It's all around. I can't deny it, not one bit. If you've never been invited to attend a conference viewing or missed it this time, this is what you missed out on.
I hope that when I have a family, I can instill the same love for Conference as I have. It really is a treasure to me to be able to be renewed through these men. To have someone tell me I'm doing well, that sure there are things I can improve on, but nothing is hard when you have the Lord and a desire. I just feel so so blessed. I absolutely love this gospel. It's that simple for me.
